This all-inclusive, learning-intensive path is designed foster the growth of both courageous allies and Black employees. Participants will gain a historic and cultural understanding of the Black experience in America, practice having difficult conversations about race, and learn how to apply these skills in the workplace. This path also includes a customized coaching clinic to empower and address the needs of BIPOC employees in your organization as well as a toolkit to aid people managers in leading genuine conversations.

This learning path is designed for ERGs looking to bring impactful, Black-centered programming to their organization. Participants will receive a historical and cultural overview of the Black experience that is supplemented with actionable tools for diverse people leaders as well as a customized coaching clinic meant to empower and address the needs of BIPOC employees in your organization.

 


 

Tier 1: Fostering Authentic Allyship

Cultural Immersion: Understanding the Black Experience in America

4-hour facilitation + 20-30-min prework module

“Understanding the Black Experience in America” is a visceral experience built and vetted by Black/African American experts and their allies. In this course, participants take a candid and deep look at the complexities, experiences, and worldviews of the African American community. Intentionally co-facilitated by Black/African American and Ally facilitators, these conversations help learners understand and appreciate the complexity and history of Black Americans, and to build actionable skills for responding to stereotypes and for recognizing and responding to the challenges members of this community face in the workplace. Time is also spent analyzing and comparing intent versus impact and explores missed opportunities for connection with and elevation of Black colleagues.

 

Upskilling Your Ally Voice: How to Answer Difficult Questions About the Black Experience

1.5-hour facilitation

This session is designed for individuals who have already attended our “Understanding the Black Experience in America” Cultural Immersion and are interested in and motivated to build their ally muscle. Co-facilitated by Black/African American and Ally facilitators, participants will learn a framework for answering difficult questions about race. Following an example modeled by the facilitators, participants practice using this framework in small groups with an assigned question (e.g., “Why do we need to keep talking about racial differences?”), receiving coaching and feedback from the facilitators. You may choose five questions for the session from a list we will provide you in advance. This session is a must for anyone who is serious about being a courageous, active ally.

 


Developing Inclusively: What You Need To Know About Black Talent

3.5-hour facilitation + 30-min prepwork

“Developing Inclusively – What You Need to Know About Black Talent” begins with the question: Where is the African American/Black talent sitting in your organization? How are you ensuring this talent has access to the opportunities, relationships and networks needed to advance? People managers are guided through a journey to increase cultural competency and better understand the experience of their Black employees, to create better action plans that will retain and develop this population. Participants reflect on how they and their peers may be contributing to experiences—positively and negatively, then practice what they can do better and differently on an organizational level, and as leaders.

 

POC Coaching Clinic

8-week clinic (4 1-2-hour sessions every other week)

This highly-customized program specifically addresses the unique needs of people of color. Through this virtual coaching model, people of color are empowered to take charge of their professional development and career arc toward leadership within their organization.

LCW has created a program that:

        • Shares different executive presence models used to grow and sustain a career
        • Provides participants with coaching tools to help them secure the feedback they need to grow their careers and brand
        • Provides learners with the strategies to successfully build their internal and external networks in ways that feel authentic and relevant
        • Equips learners with tools to address development gaps and gain confidence in their personal brand
        • Provides Q&A time to answer relevant questions

 

Anti-Racism Toolkit

For anyone who has previously participated in an in-depth, race-centered inclusion workshop or learning event.

To continue the conversation and support action around inclusion, LCW offers Leader-Led Anti-Racism Discussion Guides on the topics of How to Have Brave Conversations, Diverting from Race, Individualizing Racism, Coded Language, Intent vs Impact, and Allyship. Each of the guides is designed to help facilitate anti-racism conversations and develop team-specific inclusion goals after program participation – to strengthen learning outcomes and influence inclusive behaviors company-wide.

 

 

Tier 2: Supporting BIPOC Talent

Spotlight on the Black/African American Community

1-hour mini-workshop

This session looks at historical events, then and now, which have shaped the Black experience in the U.S. It then debunks stereotypes, walks us through common challenges Black Talent must often navigate in the workplace, and builds actionable insight regarding the Black experience. We also explore ideas for engaging this community on its own terms, so that we’re better able to recognize and leverage the skills, strengths, and talents they bring to your organization’s success.

 

Building Executive Presence for a Diverse Group of Leaders

1-hour mini-workshop

This session reviews different approaches to leadership used to grow and sustain a career, highlights challenges that these models pose for different cultural groups, and offers strategies for building Executive Presence that is inclusive of a diverse pool of talent.
